Great questions. I don’t have a few weeks to answer them.

1. You mention nothing about time frames. I swing & Day Trade.
A. Scan set up with broker for: Highest change in price in last 2-minutes (day trades) & for Swing Trades scan for biggest gainers in last 5 days.
B. Benzinga Pro for news, rumors & broker ratings.
Note: Broker ratings are just for day trades. Brokers stink at Stock Recommendations…. but many people trade by them and so… momentum.
C. I follow about 300 Stocks. I look at them almost every night for leads.

2. One back tests using the same time frame you’ll be trading in. Visual back testing will not work.
ThinkOrSwim & TradeStation have back testing (each is very different).

3. I look to fundamentals for leads to momentum. the chart must meet my criteria, especially for risk/reward. There’s no such thing as “expected price swings”. I use support/resistance, Fibbonocci, and for Day Trading I also use pivots. I don’t “expect” anything. Psychologically that can really damage your returns. I might see an “edge”, but I fully protect my position with share sizing techniques & stops. I always honor my stops. I never turn a day trade into a swing trade.
